The Department of English Language and Literature has been an integral part of the College since its founding in 2016. The student body of the department reflects the rich cultural tapestry of our surroundings. With a strong focus on lingual proficiency and skill development, the department offers a range of engaging courses designed to foster academic excellence. In response to the introduction of the FYUGP in the state, a new program – BA English Honours – which offers a comprehensive education with a Major in English and two Minor courses, providing students with well-rounded educational experience.

BA English Language and Literature prepares for high-growth careers in teaching, content writing, print & visual media, etc. The Department of English offers a dynamic and interactive learning environment by enabling ICT classrooms to help deep understanding of language, literature, and culture. The department strives to empower our students to become skilled communicators, creative thinkers, and critical analysts, exposing students to a wide breadth of opportunities in the academic field of language and literature along with media and communication for supporting their academic journey. The Department extends learning beyond traditional lectures by actively promoting students to engage in seminar, workshops and cultural events to enrich their skills in language and literature and tries to equip the candidates with necessary knowledge and hands on training on skill sets respective to their chosen paths.

BA. ENGLISH (HONORS)
Our department offer FYUG programme a more in-depth exploration of English literature and language over four years. Students will delve deeper into their major with advanced coursework. The FYUGP also allows you to choose two minor subjects to complement your English major, opening doors to explore other areas of interest alongside your English studies. With a variety of minor options available, you can personalize your degree to fit your academic goals.

The SED-TALKs (SMSTM English Department-TALKs) is a competitive presentation or lecture designed for student community for sharing their ideas, research, or experiences on a specific topic, dedicated to spread innovative and inspiring ideas.
ENGLING is a community outreach program to make mingle our students with the local community through English language education. This mutually beneficial initiative offers our students valuable communication experience, while providing local residents and school children with a unique opportunity to develop their English language skills. By learning together, we build bridges and foster a stronger, more inclusive community.
The series provides a collection of talks given by experts in their respective fields, exploring the latest advancements and innovations in frontiers of English language and literature engaging students with glimpses into research and its potential applications.
This collective is to Promote the book and encourage reading habit and aim to capture the essence of book-talk, conveying a sense of discussion, insight, and exploration of books, thus pondering the author’s background and writing style.
LITLove festival aims to unify and inspire aspects of literature, by providing a free space to indulge in literary thoughts, discussions, theatrical presentations, screening, recitation and reading of texts to create an enriching experience for Literature Lovers.
This film festival celebrates cinematic diversity, presenting a meticulously curated selection of films that ignite thought-provoking screenings, insightful discussions, and a shared passion among film enthusiasts.
Media visit is a journey into the realm of media, news, and journalism, where exploration and discovery await, connecting with industry professionals through meaningful relationships, and unlocking opportunities for growth and collaboration in the ever-evolving media.
The nature walks or eco tours offer personal and interactive experiences with the natural environment, helping students develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of the importance of ecosystem.
Our digital resources provide a vast and diverse collection of cloud-based tools, digital materials, e-books and online textbooks ensuring advanced learning experience that transcends geographical boundaries and time zones.
